“I was moving full speed into burn out. I got into an unhealthy relationship. I became unraveled and, disoriented and isolated. I hit a rock bottom place. Then God pulled me out and set me in a place where I could get help- intense inner healing and deliverance. The Lord was so tender with me. I would sit in soaking music and cry and let the Lord heal me. I never felt condemnation. Just nearness and love even though it was so hard and painful. I also felt the feeling of hurting the Lord’s heart. I am so grateful. His presence was so sweet during the process. I experienced new aspects of His nature and intimacy when I was so weak, desperate and devasted- feeling like a failure. When we feel like we get off track really bad, He has such an amazing way of bringing us back in- like we never missed a beat! We don’t get behind in our destiny. He just catches us back up and we keep going. He doesn’t waste anything. It’s brilliant what he does.”

Healthy team tip: A mentor said to me: ‘You need to worship together off the stage.” This is great advice to take into your fellowships. Champion each other, stay honest and keep all offenses, jealousy and comparison out. Pray for each other. Get to know each other, share meals and build relationship. Do you know their kids’ names?

We need to know our identity. Know who we are in Christ. Understanding your identity will help you grow in confidence. When we cultivate this journey of our unique identity in Jesus, we grow beautifully and uniquely in knowing who are and what we were born.

“I have lived with chronic pain for more than 10 years. I want to share because I know a lot of people are struggling with this. It keeps you needy and soft, and compassionate. It keeps me softer to the Lord and needy for Him. It’s hard because daily it works on my mind and messes with my personality. But there is no guarantee for a life without struggle. My favorite aspect of Jesus is that He walks with us in it. It doesn’t make our lives perfect. But he is in it. I feel that.”

Like ‘Chariots of Fire,’ I always think about that- when he ran, he felt the Lord's pleasure. When I danced I felt the Lord's pleasure and now, when I sing, I feel the Lord's pleasure.”

“My piece to the worship puzzle is my vulnerability. I think we all, in our own ways, can grow in it. The industry pushed perfection for us to feel safe. Vulnerability is not safe.I get that”

Vulnerability may not always be or feel safe for the giver. But it might just be better than calculated perfection. It’s worth thinking about to feel the Lord’s pleasure.

 The first season kicks off with Jonathan Helser, a passionate worship leader and co-founder of the Cageless Birds Collective. Jonathan shares his journey of finding his own voice in worship, starting from his parents' prophetic word about his future in music. Despite facing challenges in his youth, Jonathan experienced an encounter with Jesus at summer camp in the early 90s, which ignited his passion for worship.
