The latest Talk & Toast power couple are Dame Inga Beale, former CEO of the Lloyds insurance market and now a NED, and Antonio Simoes, former head of Global Private Banking at HSBC who has just moved to become CEO of Europe for Santander. As part of the Master’s Open Door, Open City theme for her year, they discuss the future of the insurance & banking industry, the new type of leadership needed post-Covid, London’s future as a mega-City and why we should use ‘uncomfortable’ words like gay and lesbian.

The third of our Talk and Toast Series took place on 15th January, at The Walbrook Club, City of London.
We were delighted to welcome Sir Robert and Lady Stheeman who shared insights on how their professional and marital partnerships combine.
Lady Elisabeth Stheeman is an external member of the Bank of England’s Financial Policy Committee (FPC). She was appointed in November 2017 and started her role at the end of February 2018. She has been an external member of the Bank of England’s FMI (Financial Market Infrastructure) Board since July 2017. In addition she holds other non-executive and advisory roles.
Sir Robert's career in financial services has spanned 40 years. He has been Chief Executive Officer of the Debt Management Office since 2003. He received a knighthood in the Queen's New Year's Honours List in 2016.

The next Power Couple in the second Talk & Toast breakfast series were Emma and James Arbuthnot, which gave a packed house much to think about.
Emma, as Chief Magistrate, hears many of the most sensitive or complex cases, in particular extradition. She also supports her 300 odd district judge colleagues. She is depressed by the attacks on judges and politicians. We should be grateful for our independent, non-political judges and proud of the rule of law.
James sits in the House of Lords, having been an MP and Defence Procurement Minister. He dropped a bombshell when he told us that he had stopped his subscription to the Conservative Party when Boris Johnson became Prime Minister. His reasons were the real costs of Brexit and his faith and respect for the Prime Minister. In addition he felt few were speaking for the centre in either Tory or Labour Party.
The conversation roamed around the existential threats of Russia and China, fake news, extremism, a blokeish culture in the Commons and work/life balance for this Power Couple.
