Manure digesters seem to be the eco-friendly way to dispose of farm animal waste but manure digesters have weak regulation, and up to 49% of waste may include human waste and medical waste. The ‘back-end’ material is still going to be spread on the land with some of the liquids going right in the stream. The financial burden, in some cases, is being passed on to the communities as well. Pete and Bert talk about these digesters and how they are being ‘rammed’ through with the small communities bearing the environmental and financial burdens.
