Advanced practice nurses may soon be able to open independent practices and prescribe medicine under a bill now headed to the governor’s desk.

It takes a lot of staff to keep the city running, but many of them work behind the scenes – some more than others.

One such example is Erin Hillson, the director of Human Resources for the city of Madison. In this week’s edition of “Get To Know Your Local Government,” Hillson tells WORT reporter Sutton Johnson what she does for the city’s many employees, describes her day-to-day responsibilities, and dispels some common HR misconceptions.

Political geographer and activist, Zoltán Grossman joins Allen Ruff to talk about the Israel-Iran-US war. They move beyond the mainstream media narratives and sanitized versions of history used to justify the US’s military engagement in the region. Grossman reminds listeners that 1953 was the beginning of the antagonism between the US and Iran and that the oil industry has always driven the US’s involvement in the Middle East.

Already a hotbed of new construction and redevelopment, city planners are looking for ways to revitalize two plazas on the western corner of Capitol Square.

They sought public input Monday at a presentation of three design concepts.

The City of Madison’s Plan Commission voted unanimously to grant a permit necessary for the construction of a new low-income apartment building near the intersection of Verona Road and the Beltline. Commission members, residents, and developer representatives debated the pros and cons of the location in a meeting on Monday.
