World View guests, Dr. Howard Ehrman, Neil Resnikoff and Jordan Muhammad from the Chicago area group, Levántate por Cuba, were part of the May Day Brigade that traveled to Eastern Cuba this spring.
Levántate por Cuba translates as “Stand Up for Cuba.” Its leaders collaborated with Cuban and US contacts to plan and carry out a meaningful visit to the area around Santiago de Cuba on the eastern side of the island.
They wanted to make contact with Cubans and see Cuban life for themselves and they appear to have been successful. Their accounts of the visit were enthusiastic and delightful. They spoke of visits to a wide variety of institutions and groups and individual people in rural and urban settings. They were even included in the May Day Parade in Santiago.
The goal of the group is to break the blockade on Cuba, to unite with all people struggling for freedom and peace and to explore the eastern part of Cuba.
