Do you know someone who was injured or killed in a workplace accident?

If so, they were one of the laborers memorialized at a ceremony yesterday at the Madison Labor Temple.

Labor organizers, union workers, local and state politicians gathered there to honor Workers Memorial Day.

Fifty years ago today, on April 29, 1975, Bonnie Raitt gave a benefit concert with Mose Allison for WORT at the Capitol City Theatre in downtown Madison. This was a major event in the history of our station. On today’s very special edition of A Public Affair, WORT’s Production Coordinator Aaron Scholz is behind the mic to explain why. In addition to a special message from Bonnie Rait, we hear four interviews with folks who helped coordinate the benefit show, were at the show, or were involved with WORT before we went on the air over six months later.

53 years ago this coming Saturday, 7 Chicago women were arrested for performing illegal abortions. They were part of the clandestine “Jane Collective” that performed approximately eleven thousand safe abortions between 1965 and 1972. Feature contributor Harry Richardson has the story.
