Incumbent alder John Guequierre is running for another term on the city council. He was unanimously elected by his peers in 2024 after the previous alder Kristen Slack resigned from office.

Alder Guequierre faces one opponent this spring in former alder Anthony Nino Amato – though Amato’s eligibility remains up in the air…as he has yet to move to his new residence within the district.

Sitting down with WORT News Producer Faye Parks, alder Guequierre outlined his commitment to community engagement.

On today’s show, host Ali Muldrow speaks with Emily Callaci, author of Wages for Housework: The Feminist Fight Against Unpaid Labor. In it, Callaci writes about the second-wave feminist movement, Wages for Housework, and the important questions about unpaid labor, gender, economy, and social reproduction that it raised. Muldrow calls the book “immensely relevant for this moment.”

Mexico’s new president, Claudia Sheinbaum, has proven particularly skilled at negotiating with US president Donald Trump.

Sheinbaum is a politician, scientist and academic serving as the 66th president of Mexico since October 1, 2024. She is the first woman to hold the office and the first woman to be the head of state in North America.

After a calm, dignified and well-prepared talk with Trump, Sheinbaum came away from the conversation with a pause on tariffs until April and Trump’s expression of respect and admiration.

Sheinbaum has also rallied Mexicans, saying that the country is “not a colony of anyone,” and repeating some version of the phrase “coordination, yes; submission, never.”

On Sunday, March 9, Sheinbaum drew a crowd of some 350,000 people to the center of Mexico City where she reassured them of the plan to keep moving forward and advancing as a nation, whether the tariffs eventually come down in full-force or not.

The crowd responded with a clear message for Sheinbaum, chanting, “¡no estás sola!” (you are not alone).
