A local developer is spearheading the effort to establish a career-focused charter school here in Madison.

The school’s supporters say it will expand opportunities for underserved high schoolers, while opponents worry it would harm MMSD’s finances.

This week on “Transparency Talk,” host Bill Lueders and Tom Kamenick discuss a recent, open meetings lawsuit against a Wisconsin school board.

The case is significant because of its legal precedent – and because of its ties to Waukesha County judge Brad Schimel, the conservative candidate running for state Supreme Court this spring.

Last November, nearly 200 Madison ballots went uncounted by the city clerk's office in the fall election. The fact that they weren't counted, though, took over a month to become public. New records unveiled by Isthmus newspaper shine a greater spotlight on internal mechanics of the fiasco.

Holtec International had been awarded the job of decommissioning the Palisades Nuclear Power Plant in Michigan, one of the oldest nuclear plants in the country. Kevin Kamps from Beyond Nuclear talks about the plant, and the dangers of Holtec's plan to re-start the plant with $8 billion in government money, plus $7 billion for two new small reactors.
