New York mayor Fiorello La Guardia, current mayor elect Zorhan Mamdani's favorite mayor, was first elected mayor on November 7th 1933, which fell on last Friday this year. He was the closest thing to a socialist mayor New York has seen, supporting the LaFollette presidential campaign, unions, immigrants, and the civil service system.
