This Prologue is like the trailer for the coming attractions. John plans to reveal and affirm his purpose for writing this book. It's the front bookend and thesis of his gospel - this is echoed in chapter 20:31: "...so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name." John's goal and the aim of this message is for you to receive the true light, Jesus, believe in His name, and gain the right to become children of God!
