Wrestling Art with Chris Things

Episode 119 is here pals! Now that'The Joy of Lucha Libre with Chris Things' is done & dusted, I thought I'd do a special little post-show debrief solo-edition of the show to yammer on about it for a bit. In my stream-of-consciousness one-sided ramble chat I pull the curtain back a little bit to talk about my feelings leading up to & coming out of the big exhibition. I'm talking my worries, my challenges, the unforeseen bits & pieces, the journey in creating my own latest collection of work for the show, the group-show element, putting together a 'gallery-wrestling-match' & just all of the things. I also chat a super fun & rewarding Brisbane Illustration Fair from this past weekend.

Hope some folks find this stuff interesting. Either way, felt kind of nice to talk about it all just for my own sanity's sake.

Thank you again so very much to all of the talented artists from all around the world who were a part of this, to our wrestlers; Cockroach of Wacols Most Wanted & 'El Tigre' AKA Velkan Wild, to Lucha Fantastica, to Aaron Craig & Superwow Gallery & to our sponsors. And of course to everyone who came along & who supported my through this big-time bucket list item of my art life.

Enjoy!!

Episode 118 is here pals! As we continue on the road to 'The Joy of Lucha Libre w/ Chris Things', today I'm delighted to be chatting with another of our artists from the exhibition; the incredibly interesting and talented Mauro de la Tierra!

Alright, so this one was just SO MUCH FUN! I totally adored this chat (totally worth enduring some pesky audio issues that I apologise for greatly). Getting to know Mauro's story, one of the most unique tales of starting to make art full-time, street art, Mexican culture, creating art with meaning, community, the power of art & Lucha Libre representing a fight against repression - this was just a delight! Mauro is a wonderfully skilled San Antonio, TX-based Latino Artist who's work is bright, distinctive, incredibly surreal and chock full of meaning. Thank you so much Mauro!

In the intro, I'm literally driving to hang 'The Joy of Lucha Libre with Chris Things'  at the gallery! You get all of my final thoughts going into and coming out of hanging a show that means so much to me. Looks like I'm also going to be rambling about this thing on the News!

'The Joy of Lucha Libre with Chris Things' from 5pm, September 26th at Superwow Gallery, Moffat Beach, QLD.

Enjoy!!

Episode 115 is here pals! We're back for another special solo edition of the podcast & after the big official announcement, I thought it high time to get yammerin' about 'The Joy of Lucha Libre with Chris Things' at Superwow Gallery!

This one is a bit of a behind-the-curtains peak into my current life putting together this thing. As an international-scale all-Lucha Libre group exhibition (currently with 25 artists!) there are a lot of moving parts to get together. I also have a bunch of new art of my own to make for it! So today I'm chatting about these things, along with a general long-winded ramble about exactly what it means to me to get to put together what I believe is Australia's FIRST EVER all-Lucha art exhibition in a gallery space!

Thanks again once more to Aaron Craig & Superwow Gallery for allowing me to guest-curate this thing, along with Black Flag Brewing, Heaps Normal & Sunshine Coast Council for helping to make this possible!

Chase your dreams to their furthest ends everybody! No matter how ridiculously niche they may be. Cool things can happen if you do!

'The Joy of Lucha Libre with Chris Things' from 5pm, September 26th at Superwow Gallery, Moffat Beach, QLD.

Enjoy!!

Episode 110 is here pals! Our "Wrestling Art Curator" edition of the podcast IS BACK with internationally-renowned Canadian Lucha Artist, BRUCE ARTHURS!

Feels far too long since we've had one of these episodes! But I'm delighted to be back at it, chatting to Bruce! It feels like every Mexican group lucha-art show i've been in of late has also included this fellow, so I thought it high-time to finally chat it up! Coming back from a wee little 30 year break from the things, Bruce's art is super-cool & wonderfully captures the warmth, heart & playful nostalgia of Lucha Libre Mexicana. We talk all about his art, his journey, his love for Mexico & just what he loves about creating art inspired by Lucha Libre. We also chat about our mutual participation in Masked Republic's upcoming amazing "Luchadores vs Everything" Lucha Film Encyclopaedia & both being in the current Blue Demon 'El Icono' art show at the Gallery of Blue Demon put together by the great Hijo Del Blue Demon Jr.! Thanks so much Bruce_Sma_Artist!

In our opening segment, I'm talking my upcoming Chris Things 2026 Art Show at The Scratch, taking a little break from podcasting while I lose my mind creating ALL the art & Andrew Leavold & I's upcoming CULT-LUCHA screening at Netherworld at the end of the month - featuring Federico Curiel's "Los Campeones Justicieros" (1971)!

Enjoy!!

Be sure to check out Bruce's wonderful art on Instagram!
