For I wish that I myself were accursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my brothers, my kinsmen according to the flesh.

My favorite character in Narnia is Reepicheep the Mouse. His charisma, bravery and courage make up for the fact that he is the smallest of the great Narnian heroes. All these attributes come into play after Aslan has recaptured Narnia.

During the battle, Reepicheep was badly wounded. Much to his shame, his tail had been cut off. He begged Aslan to regrow his tail. Aslan refused.

Aslan asked, "Why have your followers all drawn their swords may I ask?" (209). The other mice would not allow themselves to have a tail it were forbidden from Reepicheep. Aslan relented and the tail grew back.

St. Paul had the same sacrificial spirit towards his Jewish brethren. He would rather see himself thrown into Hell if it would save some of his unbelieving brethren. Paul tells us to imitate the sacrificial nature of Christ who came down for you and allowed nothing to hinder your salvation. Look at your life. Is there someone you would not wish to be cut off or dismembered for? Your Lord asks you, "Why?" What is your answer? Amen.

We'll understand it all by and by."

Monthly Theme: Chronicles of Narnia - The Horse and His Boy 

Then [Jesus] said to Thomas,  

One of the greatest shames in this world is that people don't want to see Jesus for who He really is. We talked last time about Jesus not being safe. There are some throughout the church's history who haven't even wanted to see Jesus as being human. Lewis characterizes this through the character Bree the Horse. He comes to the point where he even allegorizes Aslan's being a lion. Aslan appears in the midst of Bree's allegory.

"Now, Bree," [Aslan] said, "you poor, proud, frightened Horse draw near. Nearest still, my son. Do not dare not to dare. Touch me. Smell me. Here are my paws, here is my tail, these are my whiskers. I am true Beast" (201).

Jesus says the same sort of things to Thomas a week after His resurrection. It was one of the many proofs that Jesus gave to His disciples to prove His physical resurrection. Jesus tells Thomas the same thing that Aslan tells Bree: "I am true man." Think about the true Man as you go through your day. Amen.
