It is clear that the Roman pontiffs, with their followers, defend godless doctrines and godless services. And the mark of Antichrist plainly agree with the kingdom of the pope and his followers. For Paul, in describing the Antichrist to the Thessalonians, calls him an enemy of Christ, "Who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the Temple of God" (2 Thessalonians 2:4). He is not speaking about heathen kings, but about someone ruling in the Church. He calls him the enemy of Christ, because he will invent doctrine conflicting with the Gospel and will claim for himself divine authority.

These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation. Noah walked with God. (Genesis 6:9)

Noah was not perfect. He was not sinless. However, in comparison with everyone around him, he was a saint.

He walked with God because he listened to the stories of how God had blessed his ancestors since the Creation of the world. After all, his lifetime overlapped with six of the previous seven generations of his family. All of whom had lived alongside Enoch, the only other person who was said to walk with God (Genesis 5:24). God took Enoch into Heaven. God used Noah to bring salvation and a new start to the world.

In Christ, you get to walk with God. You get to have a special relationship with Him like Noah and Enoch. You get to be blessed by Him in your life. Amen.

But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD. (Genesis 6:8)

Having the LORD’s favor is truly a gift from God. You haven’t earned it. You don’t deserve it. It is a gift, pure and simple.

So it was with Noah. Moses calls Noah a righteous man in the next verse, but what is he being compared to? The absolute darkness of sin. The absolute darkness of life without Christ, the Light of the world.

God’s favor is His overlooking of your ignorance of His will and Word. Graciously forgiving your sins so that He may use you as His instrument to do His will. He did it with Noah, Abraham, David, Paul, and many, many others throughout history. All of them found favor because God forgave their sins. Amen.

In all these passages, Peter is the representative of the entire assembly of the Apostles, as appears from the text itself. Christ does not ask Peter alone, when He says, "Who do you say that I am?" [Matthew 16:15]. What is said here to Peter alone in the singular number, "I will give you [singular] the keys; and whatever you [singular] bind" [16:19], is elsewhere expressed in the plural [e.g., Matthew 18:18,] "Whatever you [plural] bind"; [John 20:23,] "If you [plural] forgive the sins of anyone"). These words show that the Keys are given to all the Apostles alike and that all the Apostles are sent forth alike.
