Once Upon a Time
We found inspiration through books, magazines, galleries, face-to-face conversation with creative friends.
There was magic in the quiet.
And Now
Today, we spend hours scrolling through social media, constantly consuming new ideas but rarely acting on them. This over-inspiration and information overload can be overwhelming, leaving us feeling stuck and uninspired.
A More Intentional Process for Gathering Inspiration and Taking Action
If you’re caught in the scroll and feeling less than inspired. Try this.
Take a break from scrolling: Pause your social media consumption for a day and give your brain a chance to breathe.
Write out your thoughts: Jot down all the ideas and to-dos swirling in your head to declutter your mind.
Gather inspiration intentionally: Use platforms like Pinterest to search for specific inspiration related to your project. Intentionally save images that resonate with you and move on to the next step.
Create a mood board: Using an app like Milanote, organize the images you've gathered and make notes on why you saved the images to your board.
Plan your project: Identify the supplies you'll need for your own creative project and set a timeline for taking action. Where and when will you make this happen.
Take action: With your mood board and plan in place, begin, using your gathered inspiration as a guide.
The Power of Intentional Inspiration
At first, this process might seem like a lot of work, but it's worth the effort. By intentionally gathering and analyzing inspiration, you'll move from feeling overwhelmed and stuck to actually taking action and creating something of your own.
Remember, clarity comes when we quiet the noise and allow our own creative voice to shine through. So take a break from endless scrolling, gather inspiration intentionally, and unleash your creativity today.
