Thousands of Hollywood writers have gone on strike, calling for increased pay and structural changes to the business model in the streaming era. The Writers Guild of America (WGA) argues that the current system has made it increasingly difficult for its members to make a living. The main sticking points between the guild and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers include union proposals that would require companies to staff television shows with a certain number of writers for a specific period, whether needed or not. This is the first time in more than 15 years that writers have gone on strike.
