  • WOtR 1 - Brendan O'Meara
In September, I traveled to Eugene, Oregon to talk with Brendan O’Meara, author of the 2025 biography titled The Front Runner, The Life of Steve Prefontaine and, as of April of this year, a marathoner. When I asked Brendan where he would like to run, he proposed the woodchip trail on the edge of the University of Oregon’s campus known as Pre’s Trail. We talked about his book, about the accomplished and tragic life of Oregon’s most famous runner, and about his writing process.  Brendan (brendanomeara.com) is also the host of the amazing Creative Non-Fiction Podcast, which you can find on...

About Writers On the Run

From the publisher's feed

Writers On the Run is an interview series that records conversations with writers (poets, novelists, journalists, and scholars) who are also runners. The project shares these conversations as downloadable podcast episodes. Interviews are conducted while running (or jogging or even hiking or walking, depending on the author’s preferences). Each interview will aim to be roughly the same length — 5 kilometers — because the “5K” is such a classic distance for runners. The duration of episodes varies with the pace at which we want to move. Given that the interview needs to take place at a conversational pace, expect episodes to run between 40 minutes and an hour. A 5K is long enough to reveal some insights into the author’s running and writing life, while also being short enough to keep the conversation focused.
