Back in the summer of 1946, Jimmy Stewart and Frank Capra made a Christmas movie.
Upon its release that winter, It's A Wonderful Life was a box-office afterthought. Nominated for best picture, it lost to the war film The Best Years Of Our Lives. But since then—thanks in large part to the fact that It's A Wonderful Life fell into the public domain due to a clerical error—the film has become the picture Frank Capra always knew it could, one of the greatest ever made.
