    On August 26, 2020, the Florida Elections Commission dismissed complaints against Eric Robinson’s political action committee, Making a Better Tomorrow. The complaint alleged that Making a Better Tomorrow participated in a scheme to get around the prohibition on partisan campaigning in the 2017 City Commission race.     In this episode of the Critical Times, Cassandra Manz interviews Tiffany Pepsin, a teacher at Sarasota High School. Pepsin created the grassroots group 'Manasota Teachers, Parents, Students, and the Community Unite' and held car rallies outside of the Sarasota County School Board to urge a remote opening. She decided to take a leave of absence this year because of concerns about the covid-19 pandemic.

  • 'One Life Lost is Too Many' Car Rally Held Outside Health Department
    In this episode of the Critical Times, Cassandra Manz interviews Carol Lerner, chair of Protect our Public Schools Manasota and a lifelong education advocate.
    Lerner organized a car caravan rally outside of the Sarasota Health Department after learning of a directive from Governor Ron DeSantis's administration, that instructed health directors across the state not to give local school boards recommendations on reopening. The rally was held on August 14th, and urged the Sarasota Health Department to recommend a remote opening.

  • An Interview with David Graham, a candidate for Sarasota County School Board
    Citizen reporter Dan Coughlin interviewed David Graham, who is running for the District 2 seat on the Sarasota County School Board, previously held by outgoing Chairwoman Caroline Zucker.
    Graham has worked in a variety of industries. In a School Board candidate forum with the Sarasota Tiger Bay Club he said his experience in technology, human resources, the arts (he is a professional photographer), and the school district gave him understanding of many of the areas School Board members oversee.
    Graham is running against Karen Rose for the seat, which will be decided in the August 18th, 2020, primary election.

  • An Interview with Betsy Young, a candidate for State Attorney
    Citizen reporter Dan Coughlin interviewed Betsy Young, a Demcrat who is running against incumbent Ed Brodsky for State Attorney of the 12th Judicial District. Young is a Sarasota attorney and former prosecutor.
    According to the Palm Beach Post, Young believes the current State Attorney’s Office is applying justice inconsistently. Young, along with Republican Lisa Chittaro, who is also in the race, pointed to the case of Sheena Morris, whose death Brodsky said was a suicide, the case of Ryan Flanzer, a wealthy Sarasota man who got a no-jail plea deal after shooting up a downtown apartment door, and Daniel Santiago, who faced 15 years in prison for a suicide attempt.

  • An Interview with Erik Arroyo, a candidate for Sarasota City Commission
    Citizen reporter Dan Coughlin interviewed Erik Arroyo, who is running for the District 3 seat on the Sarasota City Commission. Arroyo grew up in Sarasota and is a business and estate planning attorney. His campaign website lists spending, traffic, and homelessness as high-priority issues.
    In early 2019, Arroyo entered the Republican primary for the District 72 seat in the Florida House of Representatives, currently held by Rep. Margaret Good. He dropped out of the race in May 2019.

  • An Interview with Martin Hyde, a candidate for the Sarasota City Commission
    Citizen reporter Dan Coughlin interviewed Martin Hyde, who is running for the District 2 seat on the Sarasota City Commission. After an altercation with young Hispanic tennis players at Sarasota's Bath & Racquet Club last December, in which Hyde was filmed telling the players to cut the grass, he announced he would be dropping out of the race. However, since then, Hyde has announced he will stay in the race.
