“Other news came to light, this principally due to investigative reporting by a reporter from the Washington Post, that there was no party that night. There was other evidence that came to life that made the whole case unravel.”

Sullivan: “I don’t object to that title. What’s the opposite, noisy leadership?

“I like to surround myself with the best people I can get. I also — to the extent possible — empower people to make decisions in their own portfolios. If those are controversial, I expect to be notified about that. I don’t like to read about that in the newspaper. I don’t care if it’s in the newspaper later, but I want to know it’s coming.

“And I believe in respecting the dignity of everybody. One way you do that is, when you’ve got somebody to reprimand, you do that in private. You praise in public, you reprimand in private.”
