Sharon Catherine Brown is a trailblazing Broadway actress whose groundbreaking career has helped pave the way for generations of Black performers in musical theatre. Sharon will be starring in the musical, The Notebook, presented by Ensemble Arts Philly and The Shubert Organization. It will make its Philadelphia debut at the Academy of Music from July 21-August 2, 2026.

Based on the best-selling novel that inspired the iconic film, THE NOTEBOOK tells the story of Allie and Noah, both from different worlds, who share a lifetime of love despite the forces that threaten to pull them apart. Sharon plays the role of Older Allie in the musical.

Sharon joined the show to talk about her role in the musical, The Notebook, which will be on display at The Academy of Music in Philadelphia.

Laurie Darby is a printmaker, papermaker, and book artist. She is the author of the book, Following Freedom. “Following Freedom" was created as a tribute to the hundreds of formerly enslaved people who died following the Union army soldiers at Ebenezer Creek in Georgia in 1864, during the American Civil War.

Darby's artist book, "Following Freedom," is on view in The Print Center's (Philadelphia) current exhibition, "America Today: Voices in Contemporary Print" through July 25. The show is free + open to the public. The exhibition "America Today" features 38 artists who harness the power of printmaking to amplify their voices and engage directly with the issues that shape American society.
