Lisa originated the club’s signature initiative, “No Child Will Drown in Our Town,” a free 10-day swim clinic designed to ensure that every child has access to life-saving swimming skills. Under her leadership, the Nile has expanded programs in fitness, community wellness, and senior engagement, while also preserving its rich historical legacy. Ms. Ivery sits down with Solomon Jones to discuss the future of the swim club.

Victoria Best and Jacqueline Wiggins, from our Summer of Freedom partners - Society for the Preservation of Philadelphia African American Assets, join Solomon to discuss the importance of advocating for preservation against threats like gentrification and demolition.

Ericka Grant has been a proud member of the Nile Swim Club for her entire life. Today, she continues her family’s legacy of involvement as a member of the Board of Directors and as the club’s Fitness Director. In this role, Erica oversees the Nile’s expanding fitness initiatives, which now include water fitness classes, land-based training, and peaceful sunset sound bath meditations. Ms. Grant joins Solomon Jones to discuss how the Nile's fitness classes help children who are members of the swim club.

Legend’s Lavender Lemonade is a family-run wellness and inclusion initiative led by Bria East-Guess, her husband, and their two children, Legend and Love-Nicole. The stand was created to provide families of color with a refreshing and meaningful experience that combines joy, advocacy, and togetherness. Mrs. East-Guess joins Solomon to discuss the importance of spreading awareness about autism.

Loretta Miller is one of the Nile Swim Club’s treasured original members, present on opening day and committed to the Nile community for more than 60 years. Her late husband was the President of the Nile many years ago. With a wealth of lived experience at the club and the Yeadon community, she continues to serve as a vital leader through the Senior Optimal Wellness Committee. There, Loretta helps plan and host a variety of summer events focused on health, connection, and joyful living for senior members.

Anne Gingerich is the Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations. She launched a state campaign called "Nonprofits Get It Done" to showcase the essential work nonprofits do every day, such as, crisis response, food assistance, veterans’ services, and healthcare.

She joined Dr. Peterson on Evening WURDs to discuss the "Nonprofits Get It Done" campaign, and the impact of Pennsylvania's nonprofit organizations.

Donna Bullock is the former Pennsylvania House of Representative. She is currently the President and CEO of Project HOME, which is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering adults, children, and families to break the cycles of poverty and chronic homelessness in Philadelphia.

She joined Dr. Peterson for this week's Citizen WURD segment on Evening WURDs to discuss Project HOME’s work for the unhoused residents of Philadelphia.
