Ann Turner is the president of the Pennsylvania Professional Image Alliance, a coalition of stylists, barbers, estheticians, and shop owners— organizing, educating, and advocating for the people who shape how Pennsylvania looks.

The Pennsylvania Professional Image Alliance (PPIA) will host its Small Business Summer Mixer on Sunday, Aug. 16, from 3 to 6 p.m. at 1989 N. 63rd St., bringing together entrepreneurs, workforce development leaders, financial institutions, elected officials and community partners committed to strengthening Philadelphia's small business ecosystem.

Dr. Tyra Bryant-Stephens is a pediatrician and founder of the Community Asthma Prevention Program at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, an asthma program that utilizes community health workers to implement asthma interventions in underserved, poorly-resourced inner-city communities. Dr. Ken is also the producer of Jazz on the Avenue event: "Jazz on the Ave” is a lively community festival in North Philadelphia that brings people together for a full day of live music, culture, food, and family fun along the iconic Cecil B. Moore Avenue between Broad Street and 17th Street. In partnership with the 22nd Police District and in collaboration with the Summer aBroad Block Party, this year’s event will feature exciting performances, local vendors, community resources, and activities for all ages.

Dr. Glenda Glover is the former President of Tennessee State University (TSU). She recently released a new book titled How Dare You, which chronicles her firsthand account and years-long fight to secure equitable funding for TSU. The book details how the State of Tennessee underfunded TSU by more than $544 million under the Morrill Act of 1890. A 2023 federal review further identified an additional $2.1 billion shortfall over three decades.

Dr. Glover joins the show to talk about how TSU was underfunded, her take on the overall state of HBCUs in today's current political climate, funding at HBCUs across the country, and why she believes HBCUs are vital to the career makeup of a student.
