Dr. H. Samy Alim is the Chair in the Social Sciences and Professor of Anthropology at UCLA, and also serves as the Associate Director for African American Studies where he is a Faculty Director of the UCLA Hip Hop Initiative.

Dr. Michelle Carrera Morales is the CEO of Xiente, a Philadelphia-based nonprofit breaking the cycle of poverty for multiple generations of families, empowering families to achieve economic mobility in Norris Square, an area of Philadelphia 64% of the residents live below the poverty line.

Greta Bedekovics is the Associate Director of Democracy Policy at the Center for American Progress. Before joining the Center for American Progress, Greta worked on Capitol Hill as a policy adviser on the U.S. Senate Committee on Rules and Administration for Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), and her expertise is in elections, voting rights and government reform.

She joined Dr. Peterson on Evening WURDs to discuss Trump’s federal funding cuts to U.S. colleges and universities, and how they will impact Pennsylvania.

Dr. Stuart Gillespie has been fighting to transform our broken food system for the past 40 years that includes his work in leading the flagship Agriculture for Nutrition and Health research program, founder of the Stories of Change initiative, amongst a host of other interventions into public food policy.

Gillespie's work, the “food fight” he has been waging — has driven change across all frontiers, from the grassroots (mothers in markets and village revolutionaries), to politics (corporate behemoths and governance).

Louis Massiah and Monica Henriquez are the directors of the film, “The Toni Cade Bambara School of Organizing”, which will be featured in the Black Star Film Festival. TCB – The Toni Cade Bambara School of Organizing is a biography of the influential writer Toni Cade Bambara, whose literary works and film collaborations were a catalyzing force in 20th century cultural and political movements. The documentary is made up of stories shared by friends and colleagues including Toni Morrison, Nikky Finney and Haile Gerima.

Louis and Monica join the show to further talk about the context of their film, and to also share their thoughts on what it means to them to have their film featured in the Black Star Film Festival.

Ashley Redfearn is the CEO of American Paradigm Schools (APS): a non-profit charter management organization that supports and serves four charter schools in North & Northeast Philadelphia.
