Proud “Hair Nerds” Jennifer Boisseau and Theresa Byrd, who use their hairstylist skills to restore dignity and bring joy to patients at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Early in their tenure when the neurology team called Boisseau and Byrd, asking if they could help a teen patient who needed an EEG (a scan of her brain). Boisseau and Byrd were not only instrumental in patiently and gently removing the adhesive from the young patient’s scalp, and washing and styling her hair. They quickly bonded with the patient over her dreams of becoming a hairstylist.

They joined Dr. Peterson for the Citizen WURD segment on Evening WURDs to discuss the joy they bring to CHOP patients.

Dr. Sojin Kim, Michael Marshall and Sifu Raymond Wong are from the Smithsonian American Art Museum's “Sightlines: Chinatown and Beyond” exhibit.

Dr. Sojin Kim is a guest curator of the “Sightlines: Chinatown and Beyond” exhibit, and works at the Smithsonian Center for Forklife and Cultural Heritage.

Michael Marshall is an architect and in 2018, his work was accepted into the architectural design archives of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Sifu Raymond Wong was born in Hong Kong and his parents immigrated to Washington DC when he was 2 years old; and while studying Kung Fu found culture, philosophy, purpose and relevance in the community. He currently teaches Kong Fu and Tai Chi to all ages free of charge in Chinatown, DC.
