Ben Tinsley is a French teacher based in Colombia, South America. A teacher of almost 2 decades and a lifelong student, Ben has dedicated his professional and personal life to the pursuit of substantive diversity, equity, and belonging in education. In the classroom, he has had the opportunity to work with teachers and schools around the world to develop curricula that center Black Indigenous Communities of Color and other historically marginalized peoples.

Ben joins the show to continue teaching WURD listeners more French words and phrases.

Sarah Mueller is the executive director of cinéSPEAK, a Philadelphia-based arthouse cinema and journal that cultivates experiences and opportunities for filmmakers and moviegoers, celebrating and strengthening local community and global movements for collective liberation.

On April 24th from 5–8 PM, cineSPEAK will host their “Under the Stars" Film Festival. This event celebrates their annual outdoor film series in Clark Park, which features independent films, local DJs, food trucks, and community partners. This year’s theme, community resilience, centers the ways individuals and collectives come together to resist, adapt, and care for one another in the face of systemic challenges.

Sarah joins the program to further discuss the context behind this film festival.

Jazlyne Sabree is a Jersey-born/ Philadelphia-based interdisciplinary artist. Her work has been exhibited with many esteemed institutions such as the Montclair Art Museum of Montclair, New Jersey, The Newark Museum of Newark, New Jersey, and The Colored Girl’s Museum of Philadelphia, PA.

From April 6th to June 27th, Jazylyne’s latest body of work, The Spectrum of Resilience, will be on view at the newly renamed Rowan University Museum of Contemporary Art (RUMOCA). The Spectrum of Resilience features Sabree’s large-scale collages layered into textured portraits of members of the African Diaspora. Her subjects are presented as spiritual messengers — figures grounded in ancestral memory yet fully present in contemporary life. Through posture, gaze and symbolic materials, Sabree conveys both vulnerability and strength, holding resilience and fragility in dynamic tension.
