Wut Up, Witches?!

This episode is the first one where we streamed on both Substack and TikTok! Hence the new layout this week. Next week, we’ll try out the landscape layout. It might look funky on the livestream but will be a better viewing experience for recording. Sorry for not editing the full video - time got away from me…

‘Tis the Season of GIVING - donate money, appropriate items, or your time to a location or cause of your choice. Food pantries can do MUCH MORE with $1 than you can, so when possible, cash donations go much farther than any other kind of donation you can give, short of your own time and labor.

Something as simple as giving an extra pack of diapers to your kid’s daycare can make a huge difference in someone’s life.

We want to issue a specific trigger warning for this week’s episode. While we often talk about various difficult or controversial topics, this week, we discuss religious trauma and how it affected our childhoods.

Our topic this week: Is religion harmful for children? If not, why does religious trauma often show up in the form of cPTSD in adults?”

Elly: It’s important to keep your vitamin D levels up! Especially in the winter when we don’t have as much access to daylight (at least, in our hemisphere). Remember to consult with your doctor on the exact dosage, but you’d be surprised how much a daily supplement can help reduce the effects of seasonal depression!

Kitty: This week’s Tarot Tutorial focuses on The Empress (III) of the Major Arcana and the number three cards in the Minor Arcana (Three of Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles).

* No. 29 Feast: Slow Down and Celebrate Yourself - “sometimes life gets a little too hectic, and the inevitable happens: we forget to take a breather and celebrate what deserves celebration. Make sure you do that from now on. If we never stop to fully recognize the good we have, then the bad stuff can knock us down much harder than it would have otherwise.”

Mini-Magical Activism

Volunteer or donate to a food bank! This is a perfect time to show up to your community. Your dollar bill goes a lot further than the random food in your cupboards, but give only what you can. If that means you can only donate yourself for an hour or two on a random Tuesday, then do it!

Wut Up, Witches?!

Did you miss last episode? Yeah, us, too! Apparently TikTok was the only version that ended up recording, and it was lost on Substack and Twitch… as a result, we went back to live-streaming on YouTube for now, since it saves those streams automatically. Maybe we’ll upload that as a secret blooper “lost episode” one day…?

Anyway, this week we talk about how Halloween evolved from the ancient celebrations of Samhain (pronounced “Sow-win”) and the origins of Día de los Muertos, both of which have ties to All Saints and All Souls Days (Nov 1st and 2nd).

The short answer - you get to decide that for yourself, and nobody gets to tell you that you’re wrong! If you like plants, you can be a “Green Witch”; it’s genuinely that simple.

Kitty: We are doing a weekly Tarot Tutorial to help you learn how to read tarot cards! In the secret episode 11, I went over how to read The Magician (I) and all of the Aces. This week, we go over #2 with The High Priestess (II) and every Two card in the Minor Arcana.

* No. 15 Garden: Something Lovely Will Grow From This - “Either we sit around & dwell on our pain or we learn how to grow something lovely out of it. Ready or not, it’s time for the next chapter of your life. Do the thing you feel you most need to do in order to aid your healing, even if it feels selfish. Sometimes it needs to be a little selfish in order for it to work in the long run. Worry about focusing on you for now.”

* No. 25 Mural: Be Your Own First Priority - “Whatever you’re currently grappling with, you must put yourself first. When you’re on an airplane, they always tell you to put on your own oxygen mask before you try to help your neighbor with theirs. That is to say, if you don’t make sure your own energy bar is full, then you’ll have no energy to give someone else. Be brave enough to admit when you need to take a step back from the demands of others & work on making sure you’re okay.”

If you haven’t gotten your library card yet, this is your chance! There is a big beautiful boycott going on and we are actively NOT spending money unless we need to.

Our money is political, so if you have more of it than others, donate it to food pantries and libraries so that they can fund our communities.

Libraries offer so many opportunities to connect with people in your town or city. You might be surprised at everything that they have, especially for free! Parents especially need to take advantage of this, because the children’s sections are usually the BEST places to be! I love the librarians at mine, and it makes the world a better place when you can surround yourself with the people that are actively working to make it that way.

In some places, you might be experiencing autumn/fall in a way where it’s still warm during the day and cool and crisp in the evenings and mornings. Enjoy the seasons and weather in ways that make you feel powerful!

Elly: “Spells from Scratch: How to Craft Spells That Work” by Phoenix Silverstar - was able to find it for less than $10 on Half Price Books!

Don’t forget to take advantage of your local library! Many of them offer mobile book deliveries if you’re not able to travel there, or give you the opportunity to use your library card for e-books, streaming services, and MORE!
