When he was our guest at Percussieschool Bracumba Roël Calister gave this wonderful performance starting on a Meinl Fiberglass Liquid Ibo Drum (Udu) and finishing with fun (and also impressive) playing with the Meinl Nino Ball Shakers. These shakers are a modern take on the West Afrivan Kashaka shakers. It takes a lot of practice to play such intricate polyrhythmic passages, but Roël put in the time and effort !

Thank you so much Roël, it was a very inspiring, entertaining and joyful experience seeing you create your music from so close up.

When Roël Calister was our guest here at Percussieschool Bracumba, he opened with a solo on the pandeiro. That evening Roël proved to be a wonderful guy, with a beautiful energy with him. A great player, a fine sense of humor, great technique, and a very entertaining performer. What a joy to have him as our guest. There are more movie's to come !

When Ron van Stratum was our guest in Percussieschool Bracumba, he really inspired us in many ways. First of all with beautiful sounds e.g. the Meinl Galaxy. But he also pushed me to start practicing a clave/heartbeat ostinato. I never tried that before, it just seemed too hard for me.

But Ron played such beautiful things with it, he inspired and motivated me to start working on it. Still a long, long way to go, but there is a start. And fooling around with a Meinl Galaxy is fun, no matter how you do it.

Can we look at Ron van Stratum as a drummer, or should we look at him as a percussion player ? When he was our guest here at Percussieschool Bracumba, he proofed himself a wonderful musician, no matter which label one would like to use for him. He did some very fine, groovy, colorful , playing, and oh oh, he made it look so easy. But that is because he practiced it so long, so well, so profound that for him it became second nature.

We enjoyed his performance so much, and have the deepest respect for this very high skilled musician. Thank you Ron van Stratum for sharing the best of you, here at Percussieschool Bracumba

Sitting in my own backyard, playing with an iPad, discovering more and more possibilities off Pete Locket's wonderfull app "DrumJam". The sounds off the iPad, blending with the sounds in our garden. I just barely scratched the surface off this very powerful, deep app. There is much, much more to be discovered. Thank you Pete for giving us this great inspirational tool !

Some thoughts, that could help when studying Rumba Clave. Don’t look at it as a Son Clave with one displaced beat. Recognize it as a heartbeat, related to you right and left step, when you walk (or dance)
