  • Episode 9: Dunkirk & Little Women feat. Mel Hyde

We have a very exciting episode this week; our first guest from the US! A talented up-and-coming filmmaker from California, Mel Hyde has already developed skills in cinematography, directing, and screenwriting. From creating her own minimalistic, skeleton-crew projects to sharing her stories to writing and developing international projects, she is poised to have a long and successful career in filmmaking.

She talks about her past a competitive swimmer, the shorts that she she's made herself, and her exciting future projects, with Audrey and Matthew, before discussing her love for blockbuster war film 'Dunkirk', and coming-of-age period drama 'Little Women'. Tune in to this episode to hear all of our thoughts on both these films, and the experience of a filmmaker starting out. Don't choose Maths, don't choose Science, choose Film!

  • Episode 8: To All The Boys I've Loved Before & To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You
Have you ever received a love letter? We know a teenager who's sent a few out! For Episode 8, we're going in-depth into To All The Boys 1 & 2, Jenny Han's young adult romance novel turned teen romantic comedy film series! Lara Jean, a Korean-American high school student, writes love letters to her past loves, but they're for her eyes only, until one day the letters are sent out and her previous loves seek her out, looking for answers. Starring Lana Condor and Noah Centineo, it appears like a traditional teen comedy/drama but with a few hidden surprises. Check out the films first if you don't want to be spoiled; we'd love to hear your thoughts after you check out the films and listen to this ep! We also talk a little about relationships, love, social media, and the many questions about life. Are we philosophers?

  • Episode 7: Mulan | Animated vs Live Action

For our 7th episode, Audrey and Matthew take on Disney's Mulan, both the animated and live action versions. The animated version is a favourite of Matthew's and did very well at the box office and with critics, whilst the live action adaptation has been plagued with controversy since its inception. Tune in for our thoughts on the films as we compare whether live action adaptations are always 'better' than animated versions.

  • Episode 6: Korean/Korean-American Spotlight | Parasite vs Minari

For our sixth episode, Audrey and Matthew take on Academy Award Winner 'Parasite' and Academy Award Nominee 'Minari'; one is a Korean film and the other is Korean-American, an important distinction to make, as they are very different films. Parasite is a black comedy thriller, while Minari is a family drama. Both these films have been very successful on the international stage and have been fundamental in promoting Asian representation in cinema, alongside TV shows like 'Kim's Convenience' and 'Fresh off the Boat', and films like 'Crazy Rich Asians' and 'The Farewell'.
