寺廟裝飾藝術的夢幻團隊/
彩繪門神是我們經常在寺廟中看見的傳統藝術作品之一，他從門板製作到彩繪過程有許多特殊的分工，由於門神代表著一間寺廟的門面，所以會是由資深藝師擔任開臉工作其職位類似現在藝術總監。早期寺廟興建的時候，會由資深藝師邀請各專長的工藝匠師，例如彩繪、雕刻、剪黏等組成夢幻團隊進行寺廟的裝飾藝術製作。
 
傳統工藝的師承/
早期傳統工藝老師，俗稱”牽師仔”，由三年四個月養成。但現在因為教育環境的關係，傳統工藝師的養成與早期以大不相同，通常是在學校學習創作之後，再到坊間與傳統工藝老師習藝。
 
如何欣賞門神/
門神圖像繪製有一定的比例，彩繪門神主要有三個特點，四顧眼、鬍鬚、丁字步。
四顧眼的特色在於欣賞者從任何角度看門神，都會有被環顧的感覺，與早期西方繪畫眼神概念類似。
為使門神鬍鬚有茂密但又根根分明的感覺，在畫法上有一定的技巧，同時為呈現門神蓄勢待發的感覺，腳步呈現一前一後，形成”丁字”(非三七步)，展現守護主祀神的氣勢。
 
門神與主祀神的關係/
通常門神會按照主祀神的等級、性別進行不同樣貌的變化，我們可以按門神的性別、外貌來猜測寺廟內供奉的主祀神的工作以及職等。

一個可以很幸運地憑直覺、情感做事的人。小時候有個很會說故事的阿祖，除了傳統的虎姑婆跟蛇郎君之外，偶爾還會加碼講述二戰時期美軍轟炸府城的一手資料給我，另外還有一個只要遇到年節慶典就能變出好幾桌食物擺盤的阿嬤，小時候最喜歡阿嬤在祭祀天地之後，將酒水集中在一個杯子裡面，然後一面念著吉祥話，一面熟飪地把酒水灑繞在燒金爐周圍，形成一個很厲害的圓。隨著時間的成長，這些故事、印象一直伴隨著自己成長，每當遇到年節慶典看著一群人開心地往寺廟移動，儀式性的動作及流程會讓自己有種特殊的安全感。後來逐漸發現寺廟裡的彩繪、雕刻、剪黏等傳藝作品就是一個個有趣的故事，小時候坐在阿祖腿上聽故事的單純快樂頓時連結了起來。

We are happy to have Yan Gaoqiu back for the second installment of his three part series with TUX.

Today, Gaoqiu talks to us about how Chinese officials typically move up through the ranks, tracing Xi Jinping’s and Li Keqiang’s career paths. The former, a princeling, was born to one of the founding families of the PRC while the latter came from a family of modest means. Their respective rise happens to present two prototypical career paths for young aspiring officials in China.

Among other things, Gaoqiu answers the following questions:

- Why might an ambitious official in China prefer a gubernatorial posting in a province (even if it is a less economically developed one) to a ministerial posting in Beijing?
- How does an official “enrich” his or her resume by doing side gigs?
- What is the Shanghai Clique and who are the members?

EV (electric vehicle) is big in Taiwan. In Taiwan, the common folks' preferred vehicles are motorcycles. TUX uncles invite EV Gal (電動車美眉) to share her perspectives.

Ray has been in the power generation business for decades. Following his graduation from Johns Hopkins’ School of Advanced International Studies, he started his career with Coastal Power in Houston, Texas. He is now a consultant at Central Coast Community Energy in Monterey, California.

Today, Ray introduces us to the renewable energy scene in California. In 2020, total renewable electricity generation reached 33% of total electricity generation in California, pretty much hitting the target required by a 2006 California law. In 2018, Californian legislators decided to go even further by passing a law that legally requires California to generate ALL (yes, that’s 100%) of its electricity from renewable energy by 2045. Ray shares with us California’s secret of success and how government regulations can be an integral part of the success of renewable energy. His “simple” answer may surprise you.
