In Part 1 of a 2-part episode, Letter y sees a sign stating that vowels are A, E, I, O, U, and sometimes Y. Sometimes? Sometimes? That makes Letter y feel left out. His friend, Letter z, is always a consonant. And Letter a is always a vowel. Letter y is sure that “always” is always better. Letter a tries to explain that “always” is not always better. Still, Letter y is not convinced. So Letter a leaves to get some items to prove her point, ending on a cliffhanger for the next episode.
