This week I'm joined by Laura, the dyer behind Gynx Yarns and the host of the Dyer's Notebook Podcast! We've been keeping her visit a secret because we wanted to surprise our friend, Maria (Subway Knits Podcast) for her baby shower. Not only was Maria completely surprised, we had the best time! FINISHED OBJECTS Of course Laura and I had to knit some baby gifts. I knit the Little Jacket by Florence Merlin, using MadTosh Merino Light in "Modern Fair Isle" and "Graphite". Laura knit Anders by Sorren Kerr using her own Gynx Yarns in "Pumpkin Patch" and "Fog". SPINNING This weekend I also gave Laura a crash course in Turkish Spindling. We both spun on our 3D-Printed Glow-in-the-Dark TurtleMade Turkish Spindles. WORKS IN PROGRESS Laura is knitting socks using her limited edition, Gynx Yarns 5-Year anniversary, colorway "Confetti & Champage". She's also knitting on her Le Moelleux shawl by Mina Philip using Voolenvine Yarns "Outlander" and Wollmeisse "We're Different". I'm still plugging away on my Vestigial Socks using Into the Whirld's "Mildly Amusing" sock yarn. My Skull and roses halter dress is finished! (Pattern: New Look 6457) The next time I make it, I will be taking the bodice seam allowances in 1/4" and lower the bust darts by 1.5". I also had to get some bra inserts to sew into the bust area to "fill-it-out" ... but overall, I'm really pleased with the results! I also finished sewing my Lonsdale Dress, a pattern by Sewaholic!  I may have sabotaged my Ultimate Wrap Dress, by Sew Over It London! The fabric I was using was this gorgeous, mauve, textured jersey. It was a little hard to congro In a recent episode of the Knitmore Girls podcast, Gigi mentions that she will start sewing again, and will be making a "Sloper". I had never heard of one, so I had to look it up. It's a form-fitting pattern / muslin tailored to your exact size and proportions. You use it as a blueprint for creating better fitted garments. I didn't realize how important it is to make one, so I signed up for a Craftsy class ...
