Well well well, long time no see. Come in, sit down, and welcome to a groundbreaking new podcast post schedule format - it's the first ever at-most-bi-annual pod! How does it feel to be present at the re-writing of new media history?
A bumper show this ep to make up for the gap in posting, with a trio of films plucked from the Chinese-influenced annals of 2004. Something for everyone in this episode, from mumblecore to the extremely funky action comedy, Industry Corner, the YOTF Film Quiz Super League and more!

BOO! Got ya, spooked ya.
Enter, if you dare, Tobias Robert Little's spooktastic Criterion Crypt of bone-chilling Halloween movies! In this frightful selection of six of Toby's favourite over-looked Halloween classics there's something for everyone. Gorgeous pale vampires, mysterious men with smoky nostrils and more than one unexplainable shape glimpsed in the corner of a room.
Let us know your favourite Halloween classics at [email protected] or on insta @yearofthefilm_podcast, and remember to double check you locked all your doors at night. You never know when Toby will appear with several more obscure film recommendations for you.

Something a bit different for your lugholes this time - we are joined by the lovely Dave Taylor from 20th Century Flicks! Dave joins us to talk through our picks for the year of our Lord 1991 - the year in which Russ turned 3 which makes Toby feel extremely old. Dave runs (he claims) the oldest still-running video shop in THE WORLD. He also runs the Kino jukebox cinema and projects at the abandoned IMAX in Bristol Aquarium, among many other Bristolian film-based activities! A true jewel in Bristol's indie film crown.
Head on down to 20th Century Flicks in Bristol next time you're in need of a movie deep cut you just have to get your hands on, and enjoy the waffle!

We are BACK IN BUSINESS people - or for an alternative film reference you could say we're BACK IN THE HABIT or perhaps even STRIKING BACK (that could be Empire or Jay & Silent Bob, listener's choice). We've been away while Russ joined the Dad Club, making this episode the first offering in a glorious new era of Dad Pod Broadcasting. And what better Father's Day gift than to be forced to listen to three tired Dads talking at you about films they like. Hey, at least you'll learn something, this is the long-forgotten history of film we're talking about....but wait a minute...2022!? That's not history, we hear you cry! What possible hidden gems and forgotten treasures can you have possibly dredged up from just three years ago?
Well, you're going to have to listen to find out. As ever, please direct any thoughts, notes, opinions and tellings off to [email protected], give us a follow on Spotify or Apple Podcasts, and tell your Dad to listen to this.
Cheers!

103 years have passed between the screening of these films, and you listening to three men you don't know talk about them. Incredible.
This week we're all about the early days of cinema. We're talking white cultural tourism, we're talking the birth of horror, we're talking the Kuleshov Effect.
As ever, please direct any thoughts, notes, opinions and tellings off to [email protected]
Thanks for listening!

This week we're going way back into the mists of time...five years before the iPhone 1...to a land that narrowly escaped destruction at the hands of the Y2K bug. Yes, it's 2002, the year that catapulted The Rock to stardom as the worst CGI scorpion man ever.
As ever we've got a fantastic selection of films to chew over, along with regular features Industry Corner (which will become relevant at some point, presumably), a whirlwind update of what was rockin' the film industry in 2002, and of course the ultra-competitive, incredibly well organised Film Quiz Super League.

That's right baby, we're back with a waffle-tastic bumper episode to kick start the new year! Or at least, sort of gently nudge the year along a bit. If it feels like it needs it.
We're back to the swinging sixties this week, with all the usual features you know and (presumably?) love, as well as a couple of new bells and whistles that Toby got for Christmas.

1970, what a year. The beginning of the biggest decade of filmmaking (according to Toby), the birth of the blockbuster (according to Toby), the year film changed forever (according to Toby), and oh! Look at that. Toby's birth year, what a coincidence. Warning: contains one instance of a failed gameshow format and brief questionable musical content.
