This week, I caught up with South London-based musician Tara Lily, who combines electronic beats, drones from sitars drawing from Bengali music, and a background in traditional jazz to create complex musical soundscapes to express herself. We talked all about her unique cross-continental sound, her inspirations and influences, shooting her music videos in India and Nepal, spiritualism, jazz in London, and being a woman and young person in jazz music today (amongst many other things!)
Her latest single 'No Way Out' can be found on Bandcamp. Keep an eye out for her album soon!

This week, we dug out a beloved Charlatans CD, played some brand-new music from upcoming artists, recapped a mad Thursday night in Toronto seeing Belfast hip hop trio KNEECAP and talked to London musician Tara Lily about her unique cross-continental sound, combining electronic beats, drones from sitars drawing from Bengali music, and a background in traditional jazz to create complex musical soundscapes to express herself. This week, a St. Patrick's Day special! Guests joined me throughout the show to help curate a themed show full of Irish music, festivities and fun. For the first half, Alessia and Katie brought along some traditional Irish music and drinking songs to play along to this show, and for the second half, Emily, host of Em's Gems phones in from Exeter bringing us the scoop on celebrations in the UK, as well as an (unrelated but wonderful) anecdote about the band Muse. Find the playlist and follow along, and try to support artists independently if you can!

This week on Yellow Brit Road, I caught up with Peace Okezie, aka Master Peace, a London-based indie musician who has captured all our attention with his masterful, dancey debut album How To Make A Master Peace. We talked all about the album, being the new face of indie sleaze in 2024, identity and plans for the future ('World domination!') This was a fun chat, find yourself a copy of the album and listen to the whole interview!

This week was all about the awards, both global and local. We discussed the BRITs, the biggest night in British music, where underdogs prevailed and records were smashed. We also talked all about Kingston's own Slaight Music Video Prize at the Kingston Canadian Film Festival (where the CFRC Live Sessions crew and I did red carpet interviews! Check our Instagram). Mary Ambrose from Team Ambrose, who presented the award on Sunday night, phoned in to give us the first and exclusive scoop on the winners! And of course, great new releases. Music by:
Yard Act, Angharad, Master Peace, CRUMBS, Mdou Moctar, Green Park, Mhaol, RAYE, Olivia Dean, Jungle, CASISDEAD, Connie Constance, Little Simz, Danielle Hope, Nice On, Mahalia, Nick Cave and Kylie Minogue; The Last Dinner Party

Here's the full interview! Sean Murphy O'Neil is the singer and guitarist in one of Liverpool's most exciting new bands, Courting. The band released their second album, New Last Name, an album that is also a theatrical play if you want it to be, and Sean joined me on the Yellow Brit Road to talk all about the new album, their songwriting philosophies, on wanting to be pop stars, Reading and Leeds, and being unafraid to make exactly the sort of music they want to make.
