When you hear YES BUT it is not a comment of agreement but more one of contradiction.  One takes the statement explaining how your system or product works and counters it with their vision of how it should work - for them. If this happens in the sales cycle, you can bet it will continue into the customer cycle. Ultimately, your recommendations will be met with objections, and very little will be accomplished.  We know the cycle. Advice is countered, recommendations are not followed, content is changed. What was supposed to be a process to help that client in their area of need becomes the client instructing you. Usually, the client's greatest need is the area they don't want to give up, and nothing changes..... As I have noticed, this type of behavior is spotted early in the process. They may ask for your help and recognize the shortcomings of their marketing, messaging, SEO, website, etc. But listen carefully. But listen carefully. Problem prospects will always admit the problem with temporary agreement, but then follow up with a counter to your understanding of the situation or their unique issues.
