What happens when you take a movie scene, mess with the sound, and then try to put it all back together? That's the Yes Challenge for this episode.
Akumu and Claire take a clip from Yes Man, strip it down, and spend a week learning how to rebuild its audio, from dialogue and background noise to all those tiny sound effects you barely notice while watching a film.
Guiding them through the challenge is sound producer, teacher, songwriter, and recording artist Peddo Brian (@peddobrian), who is also the man behind the Yes Girls Podcast theme song.
And somewhere along the way, the girls discover just how much work goes into making something sound completely ordinary.
So, is what they're doing sound production, sound engineering, sound design, or audio post-production? Turns out, there's a difference, and this episode gets into it.

Sound engineering is the branch of engineering in which professionals work on the technicality of sound and mainly ensure tracks sound good to the ear.
Sound/audio engineers have three primary jobs in a studio setup: editing, mixing and mastering. Such a career path can lead to you becoming an audiovisual designer, a production engineer, or an audio technician.
Sound (audio) production - the term used in this episode - is often used interchangeably with "music production," but they're pretty different.
Sound (audio) production is the entire process of recording audio and editing it to make it sound a certain way.
On the other hand, sound design is the process of recording, acquiring, manipulating, or generating audio elements.

So what the Yes Girls focused on for this challenge was sound design and audio post-production.
For the Yes Man clip, Akumu and Claire had to attempt a couple of things: removing, isolating, normalising and inserting different sound elements and effects that were not already in it.
Peddo began by offering the girls some guidance, and off they went into their 1-week challenge to become amateur sound designers!
