The Mishna and early post-Mishnaic authorities ruled somewhat leniently, permitting some mistakenly re-married women to return to their first husbands. But post-Talmudic authorities took a stricter stance, requiring double divorces in every case. Today’s page documents the shift from the lenient ruling to the strict one.
