Dear brothers and sisters,
When Suffering Strikes, How Do We Understand God's Sovereignty, Human Freedom, and Divine Permission?
This session continues our study through Job chapters one and two, reflecting on how Job — after losing his wealth, his children, and his health — still fell down and worshipped God in faith. We'll explore:
May we learn from Job's experience: even when we cannot understand what God is doing in the moment, we can still trust that He is an all-powerful, all-knowing, and faithful God.

Dear brothers and sisters, Satan challenges whether Job's devotion is genuine — but God permits this test to prove that even a human being can remain more faithful than Satan himself. In a single day, Job loses everything — his wealth and all ten of his children — yet he falls down and worships, saying, "The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away." In that one act of worship, Satan has already lost. May we, too, choose worship over cursing, even in our greatest losses.

Dear bothers and sisters, Job's three friends — Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar — along with young Elihu, each criticized him from a different angle, all wrongly assuming that suffering must mean sin. In the end, God Himself steps in to set the record straight. Job discovers something profound: true worship isn't rooted in what God gives us — it's rooted simply in who He is. May we learn the same — to trust and worship Him simply because He is God.

Dear brothers and sisters, we all live in a world full of suffering — disasters, tragedies, loss — and none of us can escape it. Philosophers and religions have tried for centuries to answer "why," but no one has ever given a satisfying answer. Only God truly knows. That's exactly why He gave us the book of Job — the fullest discussion of suffering in all of Scripture. Job won't answer every question, but it will teach us this: even without knowing why, we can still trust the sovereign God and endure.
