There are some jobs which robots will never be able to do as well as humans.

    例句: 有些工作机器人永远做得不如人类好。Meaning: Humans will do a better job.意思: 人类会做得更好。

I do my job as well as I possibly can.

例句: 我尽我所能把工作做好。Meaning: I do my job in the best possible way.意思: 我以最好的方式做工作。

These “non idiomatic” uses, as seen previously are used in what some languages call the “inverted comparison”. When A + B are equal or when used with “not” then “A is less than B”

    这些普通用法属于同级比较:A 和 B 一样;加 not 则表示 A 不如 B。

“Well” is the adverb which stems from the adjective “good”.

    well 是形容词 good 对应的副词。

    I do a good job.

    我工作做得好。

    I do my job well.

    我把工作做得很好。

I do my job as well as I can.

    我尽力把工作做好。

My father is well. (In good health)

    我父亲身体很好。

He (A) is as well as my mother (B) = both are well. We compare his state of “wellness” to that of another, in this case, “my mother” - A+B are equal.

    他和我妈妈身体一样好。(两人健康状况相同)

He is not as well as my mother. = my mother is better (in better health than he is) A is less than B

    他身体不如我妈妈好。(妈妈身体更好)

Look at the following examples. Out of context they are ambiguous. They have double meaning but in the context we understand if the speaker is using the idiomatic meaning of “as well as” or if he/she is using the “non idiomatic meaning”.

    看下面的例子,脱离语境会有歧义,有两层意思,但结合上下文就能判断是习语用法还是比较用法。

I speak English as well as Italian. (Idiomatic meaning)

not only do I speak English but I also speak Italian. I speak both languages.

    例句 1: 我会说英语和意大利语。(习语:和、以及)意思: 我既会说英语,也会说意大利语,两门语言都会。

I speak English as well as Italian. (Non idiomatic meaning)

I speak both languages equally well. I do not speak English better than I speak Italian and I do not speak Italian better than I speak English.

    例句 2: 我英语说得和意大利语一样好。(比较用法)意思: 两门语言说得一样好,没有哪个更好。

We could take away the ambiguity of the first example by rearranging (changing) the word order.

    通过调整语序可以消除歧义:

Example: As well as English I speak Italian. This clarifies the meaning more.

    例句: 除了英语,我还会说意大利语。(意思更明确)

    As long as

    Meaning: On the condition that.

    例句: 只要你半夜前回家,今晚就可以和朋友去迪斯科。

“As long as” similarly to “as well as” has its ‘non idiomatic’ meaning.

和 as well as 一样,as long as 也有普通比较含义。

    Example:

My table is as long as yours = both our tables are the same length. Table A and table B are the same length.例句: 我的桌子和你的一样长。

    * 另见 not at all(别客气;一点也不)
