Today my guess is Bea Chan.  Bea and I met during our year long IYTA teaching course in 2021 and since then she has forged her own teaching career, closely linking it with her career in midwifery and pre-natal yoga.  

She has also done courses in quantum healing and yin yoga.

Welcome to the second series of Yoga Teachers Talking Teaching Yoga podcast!

Today my guest is Muriel Devillierre, founder of Shining Sea Yoga, bringing yoga for a cause and structured for kids, adults and families!

Muriel has a dancing background and combines her experience with discipline, alignment and playfulness to her classes.

Actually I met Muriel in 2021 during our year long diploma of yoga teaching course, that was offered by the now closed International Yoga Teachers Association or IYTA.  Even then, Muriel was able to communicate her enjoyable yoga sequences with a certain lightness allowing an immediate connection from her students.

To date, her teaching has largely been with small groups, but is steadily growing offering intimate outdoor classes with a focus on making her yoga invigorate the soul. She also will start bringing Yoga to kids at after school care!

Welcome to the second series of the Yoga Teachers Talking Teaching Yoga podcast!

Today our guest is Ruth Gent, courses director with Dru Australasia, a not for profit yoga, meditation and Ayurveda teacher training organisation.

Referred to as yoga at heart, Dru is a gentle, flowing style of yoga accessible to everyone. Dru uses breath and visualisation to move subtle energy through the body and bring balance on all levels of your being.

Founded in the 70s in the UK, Dru has grown to hold a substantial community impact across Europe and here in Australia, comprised of teachers and practitioners specialising in the yoga of sound, kids yoga, Ayurveda, yoga dance, philosophy and the deeper dive into spirituality, breathwork, yoga nidra and yoga therapy.

Ruth has been practicing yoga for 37 years and has been involved with Dru since 2003. As the courses director she is involved in training teachers on the post graduate courses.

In this series of interviews, we talk to yoga teachers.  We find out what got them into yoga, why they became teachers, how they got started, what styles of yoga interested them, who their inspirations were and finally what their plans are going forward.  

Our last guest in this series is Julian Singh, yoga practitioner, teacher, traveller and author. 

Based in Canberra, Julian has built a corporate career in finance and IT, as well as carving out his own quite unique yoga journey. 

Commencing his yoga practice with his mother in 2002, Julian’s curiosity with breathing, mindfulness and discipline allowed him to deepen his practice in pranayama and concentration. 

He became a certified yoga teacher in 2015 and continues to teach to this day. 

He has travelled extensively, spending around three years minimally backpacking by land through India, Western Europe, and the Americas, and immersing himself in diverse cultures and experiences

Julian has completed a number of Ironman events, ultra-trail runs, and long distance cycling such as from Manhattan to Montauk! 

On top of all that, Julian has a passion for Sanskrit which led him to study the language to a university standard and has recently published his own book  “Sanskrit in Modern Yoga”, combining ancient Vedic philosophy to modern yoga practices and is available now.

Katherine’s  approach and work in corporate wellness and career coaching weaves ancient yoga practices to psychology and neuroscience, in a way that a modern audience can understand.  

Indeed, I myself have benefitted from Katherine’s guidance on finding your value and realising what it can bring to the world.  Indeed, this podcast is one such outcome!

Today my guest is Katie Brown, teacher and author from Katie Brown Yoga.

Katie’s passion is in relaxation, combining restorative yoga poses with soothing breathing practices purpose-built to still the mind and allow the body to heal.

She has published books including The Relaxation Rainbow, and has designed courses that develop healthy bodies and happy minds. 

Since our chat, Katie has stepped into the role of Creative Director at Thrive Journey — a global women’s wellbeing platform supporting women at every stage of life.  We’ve included a link below.

Her new role brings together her decades of experience teaching yoga and Qi Gong along with her background as a magazine editor and journalist to help women access supportive practices from the comfort of their own home.

Based in Sydney, and inspired by the meditation she saw practiced in her native Sri Lanka, Imasha has developed a longer, slower form of yoga.  With classes up to 2 hours long, she provides space for her students a depth of practice to allow full immersion and relaxation.

Today my guest is Liz Kraefft, for over 20 years, Liz has taught hatha yoga, corporate wellness and yoga Nidra.  Her teaching background makes her an excellent communicator, and she also lectured on yoga postures with the IYTA.  

Currently she’s the owner of Ku-ring-gai Yoga on Sydney’s north shore.  Ku-ring-gai Yoga itself was started in 1978 by Margaret North, who is still teaching with Liz and the KY team. 

She joins me from her home in Sydney.

Hello, I’m Yogi Paul and here to present a new podcast we’ve called 

Yoga Teachers Talking Yoga!

In this new 6-part series of interviews, we’ll talk to yoga teachers both established and emerging.  

Our first interview with Liz Kraefft of Ku-ring-gai Yoga will be released on the 26th of January, with the second and third interviews within the following week, and subsequent interviews on a weekly basis.

You’ll find our interviews down to earth and fun!

It was a delight to reveal their real life stories on getting into yoga, becoming teachers, what inspires them, what they’ve been doing and what the future holds.

Teachers like Liz, Katie and Katherine have been actively teaching for 20-plus years.  Whilst the three of them have lectured with the IYTA on various aspects of yoga, Katie has also authored books, Katherine has combined yoga with executive and career coaching, and Liz has built her own flourishing business around various aspects of Hatha yoga, meditation and yoga nidra.

I studied my own IYTA diploma course in 2021 with Imasha Silva who has since started Sati Yoga, which provides a space for her students to develop a deeper realisation of themselves.

Karolina Freeman is a powerhouse of innovation and ideas!  She’s starting multiple businesses, teaching yoga and developing courses such as Wilding Women.  All that whilst raising three boys! 

Julian is a modern day polymath!  Apart from yoga teaching, his vibrant energy and curiosity has led him into the corporate world, competing in gruelling triathlons and now an author making ancient Sanskrit accessible to the today’s world.

Each guest was enthusiastic and willing to share their stories and experiences combining to become a collection of unique perspectives and insights.  

Their stories will be enjoyable to those who personally know them, will resonate with other yoga teachers and really anybody else who has embarked on similar journey of self-discovery and fulfilment.

It’s been rewarding and very exciting to put them together now for you to enjoy!
