Today we're talking to Yorkshire Leader Noor Ali - a multi award winning business woman who was born and educated in Leeds.
Noor is married with two children, Faisal and Zainab and as well as having extensive experience within the World Foods Sector in retail, Noor is also involved in various community, supplier and school mentoring programmes.
She is also a recipient of a British Empire Medal for her services to the retail industry.
Noor worked with her brother to open a modern ethnic supermarket in Bradford in 1992. Over the course of eight years, the business became extremely successful, so much so that Sir Ken Morrison himself showed interest in the business.
After a family decision to close the supermarket, Noor joined ASDA on the checkout, where she experienced customer service first hand.
Noor noticed a gap in the market for international foods and eventually approached a director with an idea to develop a new World Foods category.
Between 2005 and 2011, she led the growth of the category to over 3000 lines and into ranges across the business including grocery, chilled, bakery and frozen.
Noor also launched and expanded the category into non-food ranges. This created an excellent range of ethnic products available to customers - including African and Caribbean, Asian, Far Eastern, Kosher, Eastern European, Mediterranean, Irish and Halal.
Over 5 years, Noor oversaw a growth in sales of over 300%.
Noor then joined Morrisons and relaunched the World Foods Category, growing an £18M category to over £100M in sales.
She partnered with 85 suppliers to grow the category to 1400 lines and increased year on year sales by 146%.
