Derek Washington, formerly, Aid for of AIDS of Nevada’s “New Media and Diversity Outreach Consultant” is a nationally known African American LGBT activist who was diagnosed with HIV in 2006. Originally from Chicago, Illinois, Derek came to Las Vegas after a career as a television producer in Los Angeles, California. He has made politics and community activism his life since his positive diagnosis.

there is more to having a healthy lifestyle than just physical work. Although it is apart of it, we will talk alot about the spiritual and mental (emotional) aspect of living a healthy lifestyle

 Washington guided AFAN in its first ever New Media efforts along with planning and building an organic garden and mural project for people living with HIV. He is also is a well known blogger dealing with issues involving the Las Vegas lifestyle under the nom de plume, “The Vegas Style Guy.”
