Thanks for joining us for our weekly Bible reading discussion. Today we will reflect on how Jesus masterfully exercises the authority of God to evil men. In Mark 11 & 12 Jesus shows how he handles being tested and gives incredible responses to questions that are meant to trap and accuse him. He rebukes the corruption of the temple by the leaders, answers questions about the law given by Moses, and teaches of faith that can do the unthinkable. Through all of these interactions Jesus acts out of reverence for his Father and love toward those who reject him.

In this episode we contrast how living life relying on our human understanding leads us astray versus how living through full trust in God will lead us to purpose and greatness. Proverbs reinforces the guidance a father gives his child to maintain purity of mind and seek a life of Godly wisdom. In Mark 9 & 10 we see the distraction a man's own understanding brings. Jesus exposes the fault in his disciples' thinking and shows them what greatness actually looks like. Jesus teaches a heart that has the faith of a child in God. A heart of humility that desires to serve others is greatness in the eyes of our Creator.

In this episode we will consider the importance of seeing the spiritual significance of our behaviors and mindset, how Jesus can purify our hearts in spite of our sinful state, and how to maintain it while living in a culture that celebrates evil. Jesus shows the Pharisees how they have been blinded and corrupted by their attempt to follow traditions in Mark 7, brings his disciples back to clarity when they were distracted by physical challenges, and reveals spiritual truths through healing the sight of the blind in Mark 8.

The birth of God's Son was not met with fanfare, distinguished attendees, or royal accommodations. Even still, the circumstances surrounding the birth of the Messiah gave so much for Mary and others to treasure up in their hearts.

After the better part of nine months unable to speak, Zechariah confirms in writing that his son's name is John. He then breaks into praise and prophecy about what God is doing and will do through John and the Messiah, highlighting the faithful love and mercy of the heavenly Father.

As Mary receives further confirmation that God is at work through her, she breaks into praise and exaltation of God as the Savior. God's people magnify His name when we reflect on His mighty deeds.
