You Ask, The PROs Answer

Hosts: Cole Willig, Aaron Rodgers

Guest: Josh King

Join Aaron Rodgers as he sits down with Josh King, a familiar face from "King's Corner" and a previous Season 1 episode where he discussed the role of a project coordinator/manager. In Part 1 of this two-part conversation, Josh dives into his extensive pre-Pro Exteriors work experience, highlighting his background in various construction fields like concrete, masonry, framing, welding, and fabrication. He shares how a desire for less travel and more family time led him to Pro Exteriors.

Josh provides an insightful look into the multifaceted role of a Project Manager, emphasizing that it's far from "simple." He discusses the daily responsibilities, from managing crews and materials to scheduling and anticipating potential issues. A key focus of this episode is the often-overlooked yet crucial aspect of customer service in Josh's role, from interacting with happy clients to navigating more challenging situations.

The conversation also touches on Josh's preferred projects, with roofing, decks/porches, and windows making his top three. He shares his appreciation for Brava tiles, a recycled plastic roofing material, highlighting its aesthetic appeal and environmental benefits despite its more intricate installation process.

• Josh's Background: Learn about Josh's diverse construction experience before joining Pro Exteriors, including an interesting anecdote about his wedding vows and electrical work!

• Project Management Realities: Discover the complexities of a Project Manager's day, which extends far beyond basic supervision to include forecasting and problem remediation.

• Customer Service is King: Understand the significant role customer service plays in Josh's daily interactions with clients, crews, and suppliers.

• Favorite Projects: Hear about Josh's preferred project types, including his enthusiasm for Brava tiles and other visually transformative projects.

This is just Part 1 of a compelling conversation! Be sure to tune in next Friday for the culmination of Josh and Aaron's discussion, where Josh will reveal one of his "nightmare" projects where things went completely off script.

You Ask, The PROs Answer: Would You Rather? A Contractor's Confessions!

Welcome to the You Ask, The PROs Answer podcast! In this special "would you rather" episode, your host Cole puts our exterior remodeling expert, Aaron, in the hot seat with a series of quick-fire questions.

• Siding Showdown: Would you rather install intricate cedar shake or straightforward vinyl siding? Aaron's choice might surprise you!
• Roofing Riddles: It's summer, but would Aaron rather work in scorching heat or freezing temps? Plus, what's worse: rotten decking or a brand-new leak?
• Window Wonders: It's a classic contractor dilemma: would you rather replace all the windows in a house or one massive custom window?
• Deck Decisions: Discover Aaron's preference for deck design—built-in seating and planters or open and adaptable for furniture?
• Gutter Games: Find out if Aaron prefers working with standard aluminum or fancy copper gutters.
• Potpourri Predictions: We dive into a mixed bag of questions, from dealing with clients to managing crews and even tackling historic homes!

• Why intricate cedar shake siding is the "hot honey sourdough" of the siding world.
• The surprising reason why he'd rather deal with unstable footings than constant rain.
• The one thing that makes him walk away from a potential client.
• Why a fantastic crew is more valuable than a ton of leads.
• The most boring job on a roofing crew (and a shout-out to the person who does it!).
• Why he loves working on historic homes, despite the challenges.
• His preference for affordable, durable materials over unproven trends.

Join us for a fun, down-to-earth conversation that gives you a glimpse into the minds of the pros you trust.

Welcome to the You Ask, The PROs Answer podcast! In this episode, join your host Cole as he sits down with Aaron Rogers, owner of Pro Exteriors, for a truly illuminating conversation about one of his most memorable and unique projects. In this episode, Aaron shares the fascinating story of:A "Hall of Fame" Project: Discover the extraordinary project that stands out in Aaron's 20+ years of exterior contracting – a full-size replica of the Mispillion Lighthouse, situated in Shipcarpenter Square in downtown Lewes, Delaware.

A Roofing Company Tackling A Lighthouse?: Learn about the initial call that piqued Aaron's interest and the unexpected nature of this residential lighthouse project.

Navigating the Challenges of a Coastal Environment: Understand the unique difficulties of working on a structure so close to the bay and ocean, and the critical decision to transition from steel to more durable, powder-coated stainless steel.

The Logistical Marvel: Hear about the complex process of using a crane to remove the original, heavily rusted lighthouse structure, transport it for meticulous replication, and then hoist the new structure back into place.

COVID-Era Construction: Gain insight into how the pandemic impacted the project's timeline and material availability, adding another layer of complexity to an already intricate undertaking.

Beyond the Build: Learn about the ongoing commitment of Pro Exteriors to their "limited lifetime workmanship warranty," including annual inspections and proactive maintenance to ensure the lighthouse continues to shine.

Why this project was so special to Aaron:

Stressful but Satisfying: Aaron candidly discusses the headaches and challenges, but ultimately expresses immense pride in the final, beautiful result.

A Unique Challenge: This project pushed the boundaries of typical exterior contracting, requiring innovative solutions and collaboration with specialized fabricators.
