Members Reviews:
Off-putting narration.
Couldn't finish listening to this because of the one note narration where every line was read in the same sad, sad voice. The narrator didn't seem to be capable of any other emotion and also had a habit of stressing the wrong words in sentences. It was so off-putting I had to instead buy this in kindle format. There are plenty of amazing actors out there. Audible really needs to do better than this.
Awful performance
I have no idea if this is a good story or not because the performance was so bad that I couldn't make it more than three minutes in. The reader is putting emphasis in weird places and sounds either over-dramatic or incredibly boring. What a shame.
Dreadful reading.
I bought this book so my daughter and I could listen together as she is reading the book at the moment.
Sadly the narration is so disappointing, the voice is reminiscent of the narration given for the blind over films and tv. The intonations and stress within sentences is completely skewed and off putting. The voice is monotone and dull.
What is a wonderful childrens story has been lost in this extremely unanimated reading.
Fantastic!
A brilliant story, well told and full of great characters. An adventure story perfect for older children.
More for 12 year olds
If this book wasnt for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?
It was too predictable and maybe it's my mistake, but I felt it was better suited to children.
What could Peter Bunzl have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Hated having children as the main characters. I felt no connection to them. I did however, enjoy some of the basic ideas such as the mechanimals.
Would you be willing to try another one of Rachael Beresfords performances?
Yes. I felt this would have worked better with a male voice especially as there are so many male characters.. I also think I would have enjoyed the book more had I read it for myself.
What character would you cut from Cogheart?
Both Robert and the girl. Keep the fox and the hybrids.
Any additional comments?
Just because it wasn't for me, I think there is an audience for this book. I would certainly read as light entertainmentit to the class I teach.
