Welcome to Polyrical, People Are Revolting and You Can’t Be Neutral. I am releasing this episode simultaneously on all of my active podcasts because this is a Pausecast.

For a variety of reasons, but mostly my need for a break, I am pausing regular releases of Polyrical, People Are Revolting and You Can’t Be Neutral.

Polyrical started with my love for political music. From hearing Depeche Mode singing People are People and Bruce Cockburn singing If I Had a Rocket Launcher and understanding that music could be more than a catchy tune and that our times, like all times, demand that it be more. People Are Revolting started with a quote from Jim Hightower, who said, People Are Revolting In the Very Best Sense of that Word. Protests are happening every day for a wide variety of reasons and too few people are hearing about them. Some protests are individual and some are engaged in by millions, and each one is important. I am proud to have been able to collect and share forward the stories of 2400 of these protests over the past few years. You Can’t Be Neutral was the final form of a podcast that started as Bernie 2016, then became Bernie 2020, then became Howie 2020, before becoming You Can’t Be Neutral. YCBN was where I could cover anything, and was sometimes a collection of short pieces on different topics and was sometimes a long piece, or even multiple episodes, reading out an ICJ order, or a Human Rights report. It was a place where I could spend a couple of hours reading the names of all of the identified babies that had been killed by Israel in the genocide of Gaza up to a certain date. You don’t have to be perfect or professional quality or whatever; hell, give yourself permission to outright suck at first if that’s how it plays out. Give yourself permission to not be perfect and just learn as you go and correct your mistakes as you make them. That’s allowed. Again, no matter how bad you are you’re still infinitely more qualified to report the news and tell the truth than any of the shitstains who are being platformed by multibillion-dollar media outlets right now, and whatever you make will be better than what they make. Just do it.
Don’t stop if you don’t get a big audience right away, or if you never do. It’s not about that. If you can open even one person’s eyes to one aspect of reality, you are helping humanity to become a more conscious species by that much. That’s what it’s about. That’s what matters. And even if you don’t do that, fleshing out your ideas in some public medium is a great way to help yourself become aware of more things and deepen your own understanding, so you’re still improving humanity by that much. So no matter what happens you can’t lose.
If we’re ever to turn things around it will be the result of a very large number of us grabbing a rope and tugging. You don’t have to be a megastar, you just have to do your bit. Start from there and see what happens.”
