You Can’t Control Disappointment

Listen Later

When our life circumstances don’t unfold the way we want them to, it’s common for us to feel disappointed.

In Atlas of the Heart, author Brene Brown explains disappointment:

  • “Disappointed: It didn’t work out how I wanted, and I believe the outcome was outside of my control.”

We also feel disappointed when others aren’t willing or able to meet our expectations. When this happens, make sure that you’ve kindly and clearly communicated your expectations to them. Then, decide how you can  meet the need underneath the expectation.

I invite you to consider these questions:

  • When was the last time you felt disappointed?
  • What or who didn’t you have control of?
  • How willing were you to communicate your needs and expectations?
  • What prevents you from doing so?
  • Atlas Of The Heart by Brene Brown
