Behind all the stress and the worry… what do I want? What am I most desiring of? Surrender it to Jesus. Say, “My life is yours, I’ll go wherever you want me to go, do whatever you want me to do.”
Taking on an investment mindset for the sake of the Kingdom with our time, talent, and treasure.
Why do Christians follow some things in the Hebrew Bible, but not others? What does it mean that Jesus "fulfilled" the Law/Torah? Jesus is showing that His teaching is a continuation of God's intent first laid out in the Torah. His first example is that it's not simply the act of murder God is concerned about, but the condition of the heart that leads to it (anger, hate). Our nature leads us to be resentful while God redeems us to be reconciling.
Do we appear spiritually alive on the outside, but inwardly in crisis? Are we inwardly full of faith, but hide it? Jesus teaches us that the world is decaying and dark, that He is light and redemption. We are called His salt and light, to be inwardly authentic and outwardly illuminating.
Are we content with what the world tells us happiness is? Or are we satisfied with people's approval? Jesus shows us here what God's approval and blessing truly looks like.
Why does Christianity seem so complicated? What if there was really a very simple core of Jesus' teaching, and the rest is trying to figure out how to live that out in our context? This week we begin an extended series looking into the core of Jesus' teaching that the rest of Christianity flows out of. For the next 90 days, we'll be committing to memorizing the Sermon on the Mount, and I guarantee you it will be your most fruitful, transformative spiritual endeavor.
