Today I'm going to talk about not being afraid to be vulnerable. to not feel like you've always got to be the tough person.
It's impossible to be tough all the time and it brings incredible pressure to your life if you pretend to be tough all the time. You must protect yourself and in many situations in life, it is not sensible to show vulnerability. However, the better your judgement becomes in feeling out situations and people the more you can at least ask the question as to how appropriate it would be to tell the truth about how you feel. It is amazing the release and freedom it gives to others when you consider the possibility of being truthful about the way you feel because sometimes that is the breakthrough that allows the other person to also be honest about how they feel. I can't say when and where this needs to happen, but I can be certain that there is not a person on the planet that in quiet moments on their own, does not feel insecure and vulnerable and a little bit out of control.
In life, everyone is far less in control than you might think. The super cool cat who seemingly has it all can be a mess, insecure and hanging on terrified that the real them will be exposed, rarely considering that the real them is what everyone would prefer to see more often.
I’m sure you all have periods where you are uber-confident when things are going really well, and that you're almost untouchable in terms of your abilities and how life is going for you. But then, something happens, and the stuffing gets knocked out of us in some way. And then it's really difficult to pretend all day every day that you're tough and everything's going amazingly well when the reality is totally different. And that's where I think social media puts a lot of pressure on people to pretend like everything's going great even when it isn't.
