Friend of the POD, Shannon Beard, is back to  share her journey of caring for her mother with dementia, detailing the challenges faced in medical care & the importance of guardianship. 

She discusses the changes that occurred after her mother's placement in a care facility, the struggles with communication and care, and the eventual need for end-of-life decisions.  Shannon also reflects on her coping mechanisms after her mother's passing and offers valuable advice for others in similar situations.

In the upcoming November 4, 2025, election, Proposition 14 is a proposed Texas constitutional amendment to create and fund the Dementia Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (DPRIT). If approved, the proposition would establish the largest state-funded dementia research program in the United States. 

•  The amendment would allocate an initial $3 billion from the state's general revenue to establish the Dementia Prevention and Research Fund.
• The funding is designated for research, prevention, and treatment of dementia, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and related neurological disorders.
