You Should Be Here

Holly K. Dunn Pendelton is the sole survivor of the serial killer known as The Railroad Killer. In this special episode of You Should Be Here, we had the privilege of sitting down with Holly to hear her powerful story — surviving the attack, writing her memoir Sole Survivor, and dedicating her life to helping others reclaim theirs.

One of Holly’s most impactful contributions is Holly’s House, a non-residential child and adult victim advocacy center originally envisioned by Officer Turpin and brought to life with Holly’s help. Holly’s House empowers victims of intimate crime and abuse by providing support, promoting justice, and preventing violence — with the vision of leading the way in prevention, advocacy, and community awareness. This season of You Should Be Here, titled Death Not Yet, is our Survivor Series — a collaborative effort by podcasters who came together to raise awareness for these incredible stories of survival. 100% of the proceeds from this season will be donated directly to Holly’s House.

SURVIVORS | JENNIFER MOREY & LISA MCVEY

In 1995, Jennifer Morey was attacked and stabbed in her Houston apartment by a security guard working at her complex. Despite severe injuries, she called 911 and survived. The case exposed major flaws in private security oversight and led to industry reforms.

At just 17, Lisa McVey was kidnapped by a serial killer Bobby Joe Long. Lisa didn’t just survive, she outsmarted him. I go into detail, the harrowing ordeal, the clues she left behind, and how her bravery helped bring a murderer to justice.

SURVIVOR | FALLON FARRINACI

"On January 27, 1993, in the small town of St. Eustache, Manitoba, Fallon Farinacci's world was shattered. At just nine years old, she and her two brothers were held hostage for eight agonizing hours in their home. Despite multiple warnings to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) about the threat to their family, no action was taken."

SURVIVOR COLLEEN STAN || The Last Trip for Death Not Yet

"Sometimes, the stories we tell here feel more like nightmares than real life.
Stories of violence, of cruelty, of unimaginable control.
But every once in a while, we come across a survivor whose strength redefines
what it means to endure.
In this episode, we’re traveling back to 1977 - to a quiet California highway
where 20 year old Colleen Stan made a simple, trusting choice to hitch a ride.
What followed was a seven-year ordeal so disturbing,
it shocked investigators, psychologists, and the public alike.
She was held captive in a coffin-like box.
Controlled, isolated, manipulated.
But this isn’t just the story of what was done to her - it’s about what she did next."

SURVIVOR TERRI JENTZ || The Last Trip for Death Not Yet

"Have you ever trusted the silence of a summer night?
Believed that a warm breeze and the glow of your campfire meant safety?
That the world would be kind - because you’re young, because you're doing nothing wrong.
Terri Jentz did.
In 1977, Terri and her college roommate, Avra Goldman,
biked across America in search of freedom, adventure, and a little time to figure life out.
They were students, dreamers - two women finding their place in the world.
And then, one night in a quiet Oregon park,
that journey turned into something unspeakable.
A truck. A man with an axe. No motive. No warning.
And somehow... Terri survived.
This isn’t just a story of what happened that night.
This is about what came after -
the silence, the unanswered questions, the system that failed.
And it’s about how Terri, years later, went back -
not just to that campsite, but into the shadows of her own memory,
determined to face the monster who tried to kill her."
